One of the best features about Space Sandbox adventure Star Valor is the ability to build the fleet of your dreams. In Star Valor, you will command a starship. You can purchase a wide variety of different base ships and a bunch of different upgrades to add to your ship too.
This guide will show you how you can customize your ship and the ships of your fleet as well. It will show you how to add weapons and equipment to your ship to improve the way it operates.
How to Customize Your Ship in Star Valor
So you’ve finally got your own ship in Star Valor. You’re through the tutorial and have chosen your direction. Now you can begin to customize your ship to how you like it! You can add a variety of different weapons and equipment to your ship. You can also add or remove upgrades which will change how the ship operates. For example, you can add larger engines to make the ship go faster.
First, head to your nearest friendly Space Station. Here you will be able to upgrade and add different components to your ship. There are a few different types of customizations you can do on your ship. These include:
- Installing Weapons and Equipment purchased or found
- Changing Ship Crew Members to Add Different Bonuses to the ship
- Crafting Upgrades to Enhance Your Ship
I will go into detail on each of these different options for customization below. You can click on any of the three links above to jump straight to each section.
Installing Weapons and Equipment to Ships
This one is pretty straight-forward. You can purchase or find different upgrades and weapons througout your adventures in Star Valor. These upgrades can be added to the ship for different effects. For example, if you want to move through the universe faster, you will need to install a decent Impulse Drive. If you want to warp across the galaxy, you will need to install some type of warp drive.
To install this equipment, simply head to a Space Station and then select the heading Hangar. Here you will see your current ship in the middle of the screen with your inventory on the right. On the left hand side, you can swap between three different views, Weapons, Equipment and Ship Crew. The two we are interested in for now are weapons and Equipment.
To add equipment to the ship, select it in your inventory on the right and select the button Equip in the menu that appears. The part will be added to your ship. To unequip anything, select it on the left side and then choose the option to unequip. You can do this quickly by holding SHIFT and left-clicking as well.
Selecting Equipment will show you all the equipment currently equipped on the ship. Below the picture of the ship in the middle, you will find a summary of the ship’s systems such as energy use, speed and so on.
There is a limited amount of space on each ship for equipment so you will have to choose wisely when adding upgrades to the ship. Add whichever type of equipment you want depending on your playstyle.
With weapons, each ship will have a different amount of slots as well. You can pick whichever types of weapons you like from energy weapons to cannons to missiles. You can even mix and match! Selecting the equipped weapon will allow you to change the hotkey to fire the weapon too.
Changing Crew Members on a Ship
We recently wrote about how to get more crew members in Star Valor but figured that they are such an important part of ship customization that they should be included here too. You can change crew members also in this hanger screen with the weapons and equipment. Simply select the button on the left side which looks like a silhouette to see crew members.
Now, you can select any crew member that is a passenger on your ship, or currently at the station on the right. You can then select them and assign them to a seat on your crew. You can also assign them to different ships in your fleet too. You will have to first tell them to disembark your ship by selecting them to disembark to the station. Then, select the other ship in your fleet and then the button Refit.
Now, you can assign this crew member to be apart of one of the AI controlled fleet ships in your crew.
Upgrading Your Ship Through Crafting
Another option of customization you have is not through any items at all. It is also possible to craft permanent upgrades to your ship to make it even stronger. This is also done at the Space Station. Instead of heading to the Hanger menu however, select the option Crafting.
Once in the crafting menu, select the option Ship Enhancement. As you can imagine, here you can craft enhancement to each of your ships. The crafting materials you will need will depend on the type of upgrade you want to have. Better upgrades will obviously cost more materials.
Careful when deciding which upgrades to add to the ship. Each ship can only have a certain number of upgrades. These can be removed later on to make way for better upgrades, but keep in mind you won’t get any of your crafting materials back.
