Bannerlord Steward Skill Explained
The Steward skill defines how good a player can manage an armies inventory in essence. The skill is mostly to do with feeding your armies and managing food.
As you gain levels in Steward, the total army size that you can control will get higher. That is, the party size. It’s important to note that you can have another companion or clan member take control of your party’s supplies as well. This is done by assigning them as your party’s Quartermaster.
If the player has a companion assigned as the quartermaster of their party, only that companion will gain Steward experience and level up. The players character will gain none.
If you don’t plan on levelling the skill up for yourself, find a companion with a high Steward skill to do this for you.
Benefits and Notable Perks of Steward
Although it may not be obvious from looking at the word, Steward is a vital skill for maintaining large armies. The skill itself will increase your maximum party size as you level it up. You can see the current bonus on the character screen under the Steward skill tab.
Steward also has a large number of great perks. Most of these will benefit your party management with a focus on lowering food consumption, party wages and helping your troops gain more experience.
Some of the most notable and beneficial perks of the Steward skill are:
- Paid in Promise/Giving Hands: With these two perks which are available at levels 100 and 125 respectively, you can discard armor and weapons to give your troops experience. This is one of the best ways to get your troops to a higher tier easily. The Paid in Promise perk will allow you to donate armor, with the Giving Hands perk allowing you to discard weapons in order to give your troops experience.
- Sweatshops: This one is great for those who love to start amassing wealth passively through workshops. This perk increases the production of all your workshops by 20%. It is also good when combined with the Artisan Community perk in the trade skill which gives you 1 renown per day for every profitable workshop you own.
How to Level Up Steward in Bannerlord
Steward is one of the most difficult skills to figure out as the tooltip for this skill isn’t very clear. That being said there is only one way to gain Steward skill experience to level up; By having many different types of food in your inventory for the party to eat.
That’s it. This is the only way in the game currently to gain experience in the skill. Steward in that manner is gained quite passively as you are playing. Just make sure you have the 8 different food types in your inventory at all times and you will gain experience ever y day in Steward.
You can level up Steward even faster by having a larger party. The more troops you have in your party, the more experience you will gain in the Steward skill every day.
If you want to level up your Steward skill as fast as possible, always have the maximum amount of troops you can lead in your party, have all 8 different types of food available and make sure you are your party’s Quartermaster.
Remember, if you do not assign a companion specifically as the Quartermaster, your character will automatically assume this position and gain Steward experience. If a companion has this role, your character will gain no experience.
