In Mount and Blade: Bannerlord there is a large range of different troop types to recruit and lead. Alongside the general troops in villages and towns, the player can also choose to lead bandit troops such as Sea Raiders.
This guide will show you exactly how to hire, recruit and lead Sea Raiders in Mount and Blade: Bannerlord. This article applies to the PC, PlayStation and Xbox versions of the game.
Where to Find Sea Raider Troops
Before you can start to hire Sea Raiders we are going to have to find some first! You can find Sea Raiders at the north end of the map. This is on the side of the map where Sturgis starts. Sea Raiders are essentially Bannerlord’s version of vikings. For this reason, you’ll find them up in the snowy cold areas of Calradia.
Finding Sea Raiders is mostly up to chance when you are up in the cold. That being said, you can basically patrol the northern sea border between towns, (as shown in the map below), and you’re bound to run into a few of them!
Now that we’ve found ourselves some new viking recruits, the next section will show you some of the ways you can get them into your party.
How to Recruit Sea Raiders into Your Party in Bannerlord
There are three main ways that you can recruit and lead Sea Raiders in Bannerlord. These ways are:
- Taking them as prisoners and waiting until they offer to join
- Recruiting them directly through conversation
- Saving them by defeating parties with Sea Raider prisoners
I will go into more detail on each of these methods below.
Taking and Recruiting Sea Raider Prisoners
This method is going to be your best bet of getting the most Sea Raiders in your team.
With this method, you just want to battle as many groups of Sea Raiders as possible. When battling the Sea Raiders, try to knock out as many of them as possible without killing them. This will mean you can take them as prisoners after the battle is one.
The best way to knock out units without ending them is by using blunt weapons. Equip yourself with the highest damage mace you can find and recruit blunt damage units.
After the battle, remember to take the knocked out raiders as prisoners to your party. The longer the prisoners stay in your party, the more chance they have to ask to join your party.
Check the Sea Raider units in your party screen and when they want to be recruited they will have the symbol next to their card as in the image below. Select this and they will join your party as units for you to lead.
Recruit Sea Raiders Directly by Talking to Them
Sometimes when you have a large army and come across a small group of raiders you will notice that they will immediately give up. This is also true about the sea raiders as well. If you have a large, threatening army and come across a small group of Sea Raiders, they may just immediately give up.
This is essentially the easiest method there is to recruit Sea Raiders as you won’t even have to fight them at all. Simply have a large band of troops, catch up to some Sea Raiders and hope that they give up before the battle even begins.
All you have to do in this conversation is pick the correct option as in the image above. Just select Very Well. You May join us… You will then be taken to a screen where you select which of the Sea Raiders you will take to your party. You can pick and choose whichever ones you wish.
Saving Sea Raider Prisoners From Other Parties
Another way to instantly get some Sea Raiders in your party is by saving them. Yes you heard right, saving them!
When other lord’s or random parties defeat Sea Raiders they are also able to take them as prisoners in their party. Every time you defeat a party, you have the option to recruit any of their prisoners directly afterwards.
This way you don’t have to wait to have them join you. That being said, you will have to find an enemy party that has defeated Sea Raiders and taken them prisoner and then also defeat them.
This one is a little unreliable as you will have to find these things, that being said it’s a sure-fire way to get them immediately on your side.
If you see an enemy lord’s patrolling in the north, follow them until you see them defeat a Sea Raider party. Hold Alt and hover over their party on the map to see which units the have prisoner and attack!
