Withthe raging success of Valheim’s early access launch on PC, fans are left wondering when the game may be released onto consoles. This page will show you the most up to date information regarding Valheim coming to PS4, Switch and Xbox.
Valheim Xbox Release Date
Luckily for Xbox player, Iron Gate Studios have announced that the game will be officially released for Xbox. According to the official Valheim website, Valheim will be available to play on Xbox in early 2023. We are unsure of the exact dates for this, but will likely hear more news about it in the months leading up to 2023.
Xbox has a history of giving publishers with early access games easy means to publishing thier games onto the Xbox platform. As Valheim is not particularly such a demanding game, we would expect the full game to be presented on Xbox the same as it is on pC. (Unlike other early access titles like Rust and Ark, which have dramtically different versions for console.)
Valheim PS4 Release Date
As of yet there is no news for a PS4 release date for Valheim. Nor the developer of publisher have provided any news on a release date for the game on PlayStation consoles. That being said, realistically we could see a PS4 version of the game releasing sometime in 2023 as well, but it is not known how long the Xbox version of the game has exclusive launch rights for.
PC games that are ported onto either PS4 or Xbox generally end up being ported into the other eventually anyway. Generally one of these companies secures exclusive launch rights for a short amount of time, meaning the game is exclusively on their platform (usually for a few months before being availble on the other.)
If you want a similar experience for now, you can use your dualshock 4 controller with the Steam version of the game. The game comes with full controller support and actually plays very well with a controller.
Will Valheim Be Crossplay Between Console and PC?
Valheim will in fact include cross-play between systems. This means you will be able to play with friends regardless of which console you own the game on. Xbox players will be able to play with Steam PC players.
Considering there isn’t a particular advantage in using a keyboard and mouse in Valheim, we can’t see this being a problem. Valheim is a mainly PvE co-op experience anyway. In fact, I personally love to use my controller when sitting on my couch streaming to the TV. The game works great with a controller already.
